The
selection of the most appropriate instructional media to
support a distance learning application is a result of a
systematic sequence of qualitative processes based on sound
instructional design principles. No media is inherently
better or worse than others in meeting learning objectives,
however, each medium must be evaluated on their specific
merits and attributes to ensure attainment of the learning
objectives.
Satellite-based
distance learning has certain attributes that support the
dynamics of the traditional instructor-led classroom when
compared to other instructional media. To that end, the
Instructional Media Selection Guide prepared specially for
the U.S. Distance Learning Association represents a comparative,
objective, and systematic approach to selecting the most
appropriate media so the overall instructional goal can
be reached.
